Gary was my neighor across the street for much of my childhood. He loved to play basketball. He used to shoot squirrels with his beebee gun. He happened to be the one who broke my arm playing football in my back yard. Just lost track of him after graudation, so many memories....
It was interesting that Mike Hall mentioned playing basketball at Gary's home. I stopped there many, many times to shoot hoops with Gary during my walks home from PV Grade and Jr. High School. Gary was also a very caring guy. I recall my mother talking about how helpful he was when he worked at a grocery store at Twin Lakes shopping center.
My first time jipping school for the full day was with Gary. We drove his black Ford (57 I think) to Oklahoma, I guess just to say we did and when we returned to Wichita there was icing on the road. He hit some black ice at West Street and 21st when making the curve. Hit a light pole and I went flying. Woke up in the road, still have the scar above my left eye. Can't even remember what line of crap I told my folks but it worked. Funny what you remember about folks from 50 years ago. Good guy, went way too early.
