I got to know Otis when we were seniors at North. He would sometimes ride around with Jimmy Carpenter or me in our cars. I don't think that Otis had a car and we were glad to share his company. That was in the days when we would drag Douglas and hook back around to Sandy's at North High. Otis was so funny and friendly. He would sometimes do impersonations of commedians and he was just a great guy to know. If you will recall, in those days the relationships of blacks and whites in our communty was not very good. We got some surprised and not so friendly comments with this combination. But, we just blew it off..... a friend is a friend regardless of skin color..... and a true friend took up for those that were different.
A year after graduation Otis and I worked at the downtown YMCA. His larger than life personality made him the life of any party. Anyone who ever met Otis could never forget him.
Otis was a great friend at Horace Mann, saw him almost knock Don Johnson out once, he lived with my family for awhile while I was in the Marines, he was a brother from another mother! Will be missed always!

Otis Carr appeared in Dinny and the Witches, which was directed by Andy Brown, in which
I appeared, along with other members of the North High Thesbians group. I played Stonehenge,
the banker/comptroller of all the funds in the world...the devil. Coincidentally,
I lived at the end of a circular court bounded by a number of stones. - Jim Green, March 31, 2017
