His efforts and medals were nothing compared to his Character. He was a good friend in school. I was very influencced by his everyday life at school. He was genuine in his interest of others.
Didn’t really know MIke in school other than he was the other MIke McDonald. The summer after graduation our paths crossed while working at Cessna. We became close that summer evading the cops while breaking the curfew during the racial tensions. He was a rebel and turned me on to The Rolling Stones as well as other subcultures of the day. I volunteered for an early draft so we could go together. I was 4F and Mike went to Nam. He didn’t last long there. His passing gave me an awareness to the War and politics, the death toll was never just a number again. I escaped the government narrative and propaganda we all grew up with in those times.
